Finished Mittens!!

A snowy, extremely cold weekend is the perfect time to finish a pair of fair isle mittens!  These mittens are from the Patons Next Steps Eight Fair Isle Knitting pattern book.  Aren't the owls on these mitts super cute?

Pattern - Hoot Mitts
Yarn - Patons Classic Wool DK Superwash in colours Magenta, Mallard Teal, Gold
Needles - dpns in 3.25mm and 3.75mm

These are a colourful, quick knit and the stranding done with the fair isle knitting gives you an extra warm pair of mitts.  As with all the patterns in this pattern book the charts and written instructions are easy to read and follow.  One tip to remember when kitting fair isle on dpns is to carry your stranded yarn loosely across the back of your work when you are ending with one needle and beginning with the next.  You don't want any puckering!

The next and last project in this pattern book is on the needles.  It is a fair isle sweater and I can't wait to finish it!!

Project Update

I only have a tiny bit of progress to report.  My big plans for knitting and watching football on Sunday didn't really happen.  We ended up having family and friends over for supper so I spent most of the afternoon cooking and baking.  It did end up being the perfect Sunday night supper so the lack of knitting time was well worth it.

I did manage to start the colour work on both the mitten and the sweater.  The sweater is going to sit unknit most of this week.  My goal is to get the mitten finished by Thursday but I'm already behind on the number of rows I wanted to finish each night.  Please send me good knitting vibes because I think I'm going to need them, lol!

Slow Start

January has gotten off to a slow start with both knitting and blogging.  I have lots on the needles and even more waiting to be cast on but not much has been cast off.  I am hoping to get back on track this weekend by working on these two projects.

This is the start of a fair isle sweater

and this is the start of mitten number 2. These are the last 2 project in the Patons Next Steps Eight Fair Isle knitting pattern book.

Tomorrow is a football watching day (go Patriots!!) which means that it is also a knitting day so I am hoping to make lots of progress.

Happy New Year!

Welcome 2014!

I hope everyone had fun last night ringing in the new year.  Of course, I spent the evening knitting with friends.

My last 2 projects of the year and the first project of 2014 are for charity.  This feels like a great way to start off the new year.

Enjoy New Year's Day; we are spending the day at our last family Christmas and here is hoping that the year ahead is filled with lots of yarn and knitting time!
